Xiao Xiang Chu, a Hunan restaurant, replaces Taiwanese restaurant Mr Kuso in Temple City.
I realized that and mentioned it in my follow-up post.
Yep. I had Kaolaolao at Shanxi Noodle House, which was the most Shanxi of places. I even wrote about it That place was truly one of a kind. They had so many other unique items on that menu that they never served. The manager told me they planned on it, but couldn’t get ingredients, or chefs from Shanxi, to do so.
How long has he had that same photo??? I feel like I’ve been looking at it forever.
tams noodle for brisket lo mein
Noodles/flavor were good, good portion of brisket. But not all pieces were tender, some were quite chewy. Haven’t had canto food in a minute so it scratched the itch
Also on of my must gets when in sgv yunnan liang cai, such a good deal
Joy Noodles, a Chongqing style restaurant has replaced Joy Thai, which briefly moved into the space abandoned by Sichuan Impression when they moved uptown.
This is territory covered extensively in this thread, I’m sure, but bear with me:
Which HK-style cafes are we loving as of late?
Really enjoyed HK Macau Bistro recently over a couple visits, especially the Macanese specialties.
Thanks @JeetKuneBao!
X 2 for HK Macau.
Get in before the Eater or LA Times write up!
Anyone tried Akami Sushi in Arcadia?
Opened by the folks from Iki Ramen.
I am by no means a sushi expert, but had a really nice meal there with my family.
Ordered some rolls and a sushi set with negi toro upgrade.
Everything was tasty and served nicely.
Felt like a really good neighborhood spot.
Hoping to try the bar next time and try more sushi items.
Curious what the more knowledgeable FTCers think.
Quick question, all the sets came with three small bowls on the side. Tofu with goma sauce, bean sprouts, and third bowl of something I don’t recognize immediately. Seaweed? Is there a certain way to eat it? (Photo from google of the chirashi bowl)
This place is next to Tam’s?
Looks like Hijiki! It’s a common side in Japan.
Weird location, I live somewhat closeby and thats a deadzone for restaurants but also theres alot of homes in that area and no restaurants especially sushi, so maybe it makes sense?
That one is called Macao Café in English, I think it may have opened around a year ago. This one (HK Macau Bistro) is a couple blocks away in the same plaza as Chong Qing Special Noodles. I read a Yelp or Google review at some point that said HK Macau Bistro was the same owner(s) as Tam’s.
Yeah, not quite the density of other areas nearby, but there’s always been a few restaurants on that block there for as long as I can remember. The Akami location used to be Mako sushi, where my family would go 30+ years ago.
Ah! Thank you!
just went for lunch. Pretty busy. Lots of take out going on too. Lots of people living in that area that’ll enjoy their sushi.
Wow that was fast. I went to Joy Thai about two weeks ago
Went to Luyixian for dinner tonight
Family approved strongly of the minced pork rice.
I had their pickled mustard green fish last time, it was okay a little bland. Went with the Seafood Curry rice today so I could get plastered by their incredible hot sauce, pickled long beans and pickled mustard greens. Those three things are crack.
Also each time I’ve gone, there’s always a group of taiwanese men/women in the 50-60s range drinking a lot of wine in the back table. I love it.
Can’t believe this hasn’t been posted yet. From Smorgasbord and 3rd Street, Saucy Chick Goat Mafia, Indian Mexican Fusion that works .
Stopped by on Saturday later afternoon and every table was full.
No pics, but it’s delicious. $15 off $45 InKind deal in play.
Should have posted to “Pasadena Updates.” Will post there too.
Alice’s temple city for their HK style noodle soups (before 11:30am I think). Don’t forget to join the chowbus waitlist if going on weekends
