Best Pizza by the Slice?

Pretty sure they had a truck and just went brick and mortar.

A few folks on FTC had pasta there. Been on my “to try” list.

Thanks for the report!! I look forward to trying pizza.

you thought the pizza was the quality of an elementary school cafeteria? I agree, def more Sicilian style but I thought it was tasty, though too thick

if you do try it, def tell them hot…otherwise, if baked less the thick crust could be unappealing

I had fond recollections of that elementary cafeteria pizza during my youth, so I was sorta paying them a compliment. What are some of the classic features of the Venetian school, within general pizzology?

I have no idea what Venetian pizza is supposed to be…thiis place refers to their pizza as al taglio, so I suppose the intent is for it to be Roman style…again, pretty tasty but the crust was too thick for my taste

My friend has been ordering pies from Joe’s Santa Monica and says the pizza is as good as he has ever had in LA. He said its on par with NYC pizza at this point. Not sure if any changes were made at the SM location but had me drooling. I need a good pizza joint closer to me in North OC.

I don’t believe there’s any Venetian pizza tradition.

Prince of Venice’s menu looks pretty Roman. Do they claim to serve Venetian-style pizza?

Haven’t been, but have you tried Little Coyote in Long Beach?

Am I the only one that hates Joe’s?

My 2 experiences at Santa Monica Joe’s were terrible.
Both were about 5 years ago.
Crust was pure cardboard.

Just the name on the signage leads me to think so. Thanks for the info on Venetian pizza.

The web site explicitly describes the pizza as Roman. I’m pretty sure the “Venice” in the name is the one where they park the truck.

Venice is a play on words: The owner is of actual Italian Aristocracy, literally a Prince of Venice. So I initially thought he might be some sort of regional specialist on the cuisine…

Clearly not. I haven’t had Joe’s in years but always thought Sunset was better than SM. Just relaying some info but I’ll need to try again soon.

Only been to Little Coyote once but thought it was great. It’s actually a longer drive to Long Beach than to Superfine or Prime Pizza in DTLA. I’m waiting for Pizza Wagon to open up in Fullerton.

I doubt that guy knows much about Venetian cuisine. He grew up in Switzerland and didn’t visit Italy until he was 30. His chef is from Naples.

Classic aristocratic upbringing.

The Joe’s on Sunset has multiple locations but Santa Monica isn’t related.

Do you have inside intel of which I am unaware?

hahahaha, wishful thinking i.e. - never happening
