Daily coffee

Post your daily coffee either homemade or from a shop

I made my first cup of legit pourover today freshly ground and measured

300 ml of water to 20 grams of grinds from loquat coffee. Let it steep for about 2 mins.
Fruity acidic taste. @moonboy403 whats your setup currently

How did you like the cup you made? You can adjust grind size and steep time to have your cup to your liking. Also wait till you start trying different pour methods rather than doing immersion! It’ll also change your cup completely.

Holy crap I’m bush league!

Love the neon coffee sign.

I really enjoyed my first cup. I think I’m way too caffeinated tho. I feel like I could run through a brick wall

You’ll build up your tolerance soon enough! I typically do 15 grams-ish at a time for pour overs.

Shoulda done that I was worried that some beans would get stuck in the grinder. Only measured pre grind

I’m so sad that I loaned someone my chemex and gave my other one away lol. I went from having two to having none.

While the Ottomatic is a complete SPLURGE, Chemex glass remains very afforable. The 8 cup is on sale at Cost Plus right now.

Also, in addition to the Ottomatic, Chemex is also getting fancy with all sorts accessories. You can customize the band nowadays… LOL!!

15.5 g to 250 ml of water

Same beans did a double bloom 30 seconds with 50 mls of water each then added 150. Did not hold it in vario.

Getting way less of the fruity acid notes. Tastes a little watered down but more like coffee

Time to play with grind size and temp but you should find your preferred pour method first and stick with it. It’s all part of the fun!

If you can already pour in spirals at a consistent flow rate and height, it sounds like you may wanna grind coarser and/or go with a lower temp.

I’m at 25 currently? Does that mean going up to like 30-40?

Lower temp I would assume means longer steep times but less burning?

What does coarser do?

Pourovers are crazy I did less steep time and 3gs less and I still feel insanely caffienated

In general:

  • a coarser grind size = more acidic; less bitterness and astringency given the same temp
  • lower temp = less extraction, more acidic, less astringency

If you’re still going with “steep and release”, there’s no point in blooming or trying different pour method unless you’re using a hybrid percolation/immersion method. You should stick with 1 to 15 ratio or less with immersion and simply play with different grind size (coarser or finer) and steep time and adjust to taste.

No this time I didn’t do steep and release. I left the valve open and did double bloom at 50 mls each and then 150mls.

Will try a coarser grind and lower temp.

Noticed 205 produces a more coffee like flavor. 195 is brighter more acid and fruit flavors but tastes less like coffee

My espresso station is a bit of a mess right now
