Majordomo - Chinatown

Patio or dining room for the whole plate rib. Last time I was there, a couple of guys at the next two-top got them, no space problem.

Patio or dining room are both fine. No issues with cold weather on the patio, it is heated and covered. Service is superb everywhere. Dining room is a bit louder. Counter would be hard if you order the ribs.

Recently had dinner in the back room (by the David Choe painting) and it was great. The patio is also fine. Have never eaten in the main room. I think Iā€™m the person on this Board who is the most critical of dining rooms around town and I quite like the space at Majordomo, so thatā€™s saying something. I hate when you can hear your neighborā€™s conversation (hey Republique) or you have to bang into your neighbor to get up from the table and that didnā€™t happen.

Two young guys and I donā€™t think they ordered anything else. Didnā€™t notice whether they had leftovers.

You mean that sort of half-screened area on the west side of the dining room? That is a bit quieter.

Oh, I see, they can close that off.

I imagine those can be quite good the next day, but we never have any for me to try.

Last time I was there, two of us ordered so much food that we had a ridiculous bag of leftovers.

Yep thatā€™s the space. The tables were separated into two-tops and the room was not closed off. Very pleasant.

Iā€™m not sure, but at dinner itā€™s currently an off-menu special only available at the bar and counter until it goes on the regular menu.

They had a French dIp on the menu at Las Vegas for dinner. I believe it was $90 with black truffles.

We did this last superbowl, it was a big hit. Tons of food. I thought it was worth it $$ wise

Skate rice ($42) was great. Fried filet with chile sauce and crispy rice with the rest of the fish. Excellent value for so much food.

Bing was great but the duck liver mousse didnā€™t send me and the Cara Cara marmelade made no sense to me in that context. Bounty Bowl hit the spot but was not as exciting a selection as previously (not surprising for mid-January). Oxtail salsa seca great as always. Would have been plenty of food for two, I took home much of the rice and half the oxtail.

Where do I prepay for my short ribs on the Momofuku website?

(Called to confirm my order of short ribs and was directed to Momofuku website to prepay?)

I donā€™t remember having to prepay for it.

I think you leave your credit card info to hold it but they donā€™t charge you.

I remember seeing a rib option on the Resy page a while back, but itā€™s not there any more, and all it says on https://www.majordomo.la is ā€œplease inquire with 24hrs notice to pre-order.ā€

Iā€™d call them back.

last time i just gave them my info over the phone, iā€™m unaware of anywhere on their website to prepay. i would call back to confirm.

I been wanting to try this place for quite some time. David Changā€™s other restaurantsā€¦ehhh not so much to be honest.

Reservations were easily made thru Resy, under the ā€œspecial requestsā€, I wrote ā€œ1 whole plate short ribā€. I later called and confirmed my order of short ribs.

I used the valet.

Got there a little early and had a drink at the bar and was able to sit down about 30 minutes early.

Just let me be upfront and say the service was great here from beginning to the end.

So letā€™s down to the food.

Bounty Bowl with mascarpone and Domojang. Nice and refreshing way to start. I really wanted the sugar snaps but I donā€™t think it was on the menu tonight. The Domojang reminds me of XO and mascarpone of Ranch, you know at potlucks with the veggie plate with dipsā€¦think of that.

Bing with Butter and Honey. Warm bing was a perfect match for the sweet and rich butter and honey. I love the combo of butter and honey, itā€™s the way I like my biscuitsā€¦hmm I know David Chang is a fan of Popeyes (so am I), the comparison is probably a little reaching so Iā€™ll stop there

Tapioca Lo Mein. Damn this was killer. So wait a minute this looksā€¦Italian but sounds kinda Chinese but also tastes mostly Chinese but also taste somewhat Italian. I could honestly do a big plate of this pasta. Next time Iā€™ll try the Crab Fusilli!

And the main eventā€¦tableside presentation and plating ala Lawrys. So marinated like Korean BBQ buy smoked like Texas BBQ. It looks like Texas BBQ but can also be enjoyed like Korean BBQ.

I think the move here first is to eat it without anything else. I can taste a little of the Korean BBQ and of course the smoke (see the smoke layer). My dining friend said it was better than Texas BBQ. I was blowned away! Did the pull test as suggested by my friend and it passed.

I tried different combinations but I personally like lettuce, shiso, a small dab of sesame, a small dab of chilli paste, and a little of the radish. Gnawing on the bone was good too with the bark. Excellent dish and concept!

Beef Fat Fried Rice with Lemon/Horseradish. Looks Asian but tastes like a prime rib plate. Beef and Horseradish! Classic. The horseradish and lemon provides a nice balance to this.

Did not feel the itis from all this.

The kimchi sucks btw. The look and taste is maybe a small step above supermarket and not even close to Soup Specialists kimchi or the Speciality kimchi/banchan stores. A low point for Majordomo. I definitely do not recommend eating this kimchi with the beef.

Thai Tea Ice. Are you kidding me. So good. I love the condense milk cream on top and of course the combination of flavors when you get to the bottom is so good.

Next visit that Duck Rice. The table next to me got it and I was eye banging it.

The dishes here is well thought out, both the concept and flavor. This ainā€™t that BS fusion shit you see at 626 Night Market, and Smorgasburg doin it for the Gram.

It so much fun to see a dish that looks like ____ but tastes like _____ instead. You can see the Asian influence in a lot of dishes but I am not sure if Asian fusion is the appropriate definition but really who cares this is some tasty food! Iā€™ll be back.
