The fact that Michelin put Zo, Q Sushi and Shin Sushi in the same category as Mori Sushi and Shunji is so wrong it’s ridiculous. Not even in the same tier.

I think Zo DTLA clearly belongs. I’ve been there twice in the three months and it was obviously Michelin star quality to me. Mori and Shunji belong too, but they are not 2-star level in my opinion. Q is a different style – I’m not a huge fan of the dry, serious rice – but I agree it deserves a star.

Still holding out hope for 3 stars for the following restaurants:

  • Stinkin Rose
  • Garden Cafe
  • Bulgarini

when you have a 3 rating band things are bound to get clumped together.

So just took away a star from Saison and no new 3 stars. Blehhhhhhhhh

FUCK! UNBELIEVABLE! DIDN’T MAKE THE GUIDE! BIGGEST SNUBS OF THE GUIDE.

Thanks for putting together the list in real-time @PorkyBelly.

One thing I agree with Michelin on is that L.A. doesn’t have a Michelin 3 Star restaurant (using their traditional lens and definition). L.A.'s service is pretty mediocre compared to professional waitstaff even at 2 Starred places like S.F.'s Californios, and execution, food flavors, consistency, uniqueness, etc. don’t compare. I’m glad they didn’t cave and give a pity 3 Star to an undeserving L.A. restaurant.

Service has nothing to do with stars. It gets a different rating.

Biggest surprise was definitely Saison losing its third star. Other than that, no real big news. Personally surprised they recognized Vespertine and n/naka at two, even though they were likely outcomes.

and shin getting one star

I guess there is a new chef at saison… so it had been speculated they might lose a star

My surprises:

Shin sushi getting a star
Republique not getting a star

Thanks for the clarification @moonboy403. For some reason I always thought service would be a factor for 3 stars.

Welcome to the word of WTF with Michelin. I’m so sorry LA OC FTCers, this is the BS we’ve dealt with in NorCal for some time now.

Maybe their mediocre brunch brought them down.

Makes me wonder if the tire company reads FTC.
