When we visit wineries in Napa we can usually pick out a look that screams Pacific Heights, SF. OTOH, while there’s a ‘look’ in Newport Beach and Laguna, I really think it’s not at all universal but related to social/economic strata. I’ll freely admit there’s a distinct ‘OC Housewife’ look too, that one requires a certain age and a degree of plastic surgery (at least on the female side) to complete it but is by no means universal either. Just my 2¢.

My argument is the exact opposite of universality. There are regional styles of dress in certain communities.

You’re missing my point, I think. I don’t think the ‘look’ of Newport Beach is “universal” within Newport Beach. It’s just the distinctive apparel/grooming preference of enough people there to be recognizable.
