Wowwwwwww sometimes I think their cakes are better than their pizzas and I love their pizza

I would like to order a whole cake! Do they do that I wonder?

I’ve never seen it available like that on tock. Maybe you could special order?

Before their brick and mortar you could order whole cakes. So maybe it’s still a possibility?

Blasphemous I know, but I find their cakes to be too wet.

I’ve ordered whole princess cakes, she does slab cakes too, just send her an email.

Interesting - back in town (been traveling for the last couple years), and grabbed QSP last Saturday. Grabbed two pies, and a slice each of the slab and the princess.

Setting price aside, pizzas (white and redtop) were both really, REALLY good. And I say that having just eaten pizza all over the place.

The cakes, gotta be honest, I was pretty nonplussed by. Clearly I am in the minority. But seeing that LAT piece, perhaps it’s worth another shot given it wasn’t Ziskin making them (shouldn’t matter, but c’est la vie)

I liked the lightness, decor was pretty enough (not a huge fan of “edible arrangements”, as I find they skew too precious, but whatever), but both of them really lacked any sorta “oomph”. So, I’m more sat there thinking “this is … fine?”

As always, YMMV.

not gonna lie, i’ve had it a few times and didn’t understand the fuss either.

The princess cake is the best version I’ve ever had. Usually, the marzipan is too thick, sweet or artificial tasting…or the cake is dry or the jam is more like a sweetened artificial gel.

I’ve had yet to have a slab cake.

I’m a huge fan but not a huge fan of their extra fees

I like the princess better than the slab

Yes I … well, let’s just say the word “obnoxious” comes to mind. But I’m an adult and can read, so no need to complain as I knew what I was getting.

It’s interesting, in general, to be gone for so long (having lived here for much longer) and now to see the changes happening to the LA dining scene. I should find the threads on other spots we’ve been, and post updates there.

Nonetheless, LA is still a world-class dining city, missing only a few little things.

But back to this … as I said, I’m probably in the minority for the cakes, but darn tasty pies.

Please do. Would love to hear about this and the changes since you left and returned.

Where’d you go, if you don’t mind disclosing? Always interested in those who leave LA then come back!

Oh, I don’t mind. We left LA in Feb '21 and have just been traveling N America since. So, really, all over. We traveled internationally quite a bit pre-COVID, so used this as a chance to see more “local” things :joy:

I went last Saturday for the first time - after errands in Little Tokyo, I drove to Echo Park and found ‘hood parking about 2 blocks away.

Superduper Hipster! No exterior sign except for saying “pizza” and I was TOTALLy out of place with the 20-30 aged crowd, music and mirror disco ball decor. Babies in bassinets and young children in tow, too.

10 ppl were already ahead of me at 4:40p - place opened at 5p; sat down at 5:06p.

Got a slice of the Sicilian Corners and Turning Leaf (New Mexico Peppers and sausage) special. Extra hydrated dough - very moist and fluffy.

Also got the Slab Cake of the day (olive oil chiffon; salted coconut custard; Ceylon dulce de leche; passionfruit pina soak) and the Princess cake slice (olive oil chiffon; Mascarpone Chantilly; blackberry preserves; almond marzipan)

Took half of the :pizza: home and ate around 1/3 of the desserts and DIY boxed the rest.

Did well as leftovers and tasted even better at home without all the noise and other distractions YMMV.

First and last time I’ll do dine in ‘cuz my relative who’s going to stay with me uses a walker and parking is a frigging nightmare. I might go back for to go despite the high Tock fees, but not in a rush.

PS: I’m not surprised some don’t like the cake desserts. They’re less sweet so if one has beer or wine, the bitterness of the alcoholic drinks will make your tastebuds wanting more oomph as @a213b already noted.

The Princess cake is slightly sweeter and more tart than the Slab cake I tried. I did enjoy both, tho’ :yum::yum::yum:
