'Tampopo' screening for one week at the Nuart in late October

Forgot to send along a THANK YOU for putting me on to this. I’d never heard of it and ended up seeing it two nights in a row. Such a good film.

Aww, glad it worked out, @Bookwich! Nice folding! The credit is all due to The Secret Yumiverse blog for its clear and concise diagram.

Definitely. They’ve been hanging in there for years. And like @BlurA14 points out, It’s one of the few theatres where you can still get discount tickets.

I thought I’d piggyback on this thread. Thinking about going to see the Japanese movie ‘Your name’ tonight at the Laemmle Music Hall. Any recommendations for dinner after?

Hi @aaqjr - Any type of food? Casual or dressy?

You might want to start a new topic as people might not be following this one.

Good point. Because normally Food Talkers would be all over a question like that. But no need. I’m in B.H. a lot.

Japanese, not too expensive. I could do sawtelle but prefer somewhere closer to the movie theater

I think it was @CiaoBob who recommended Shiki on Canon. I’ve been wanting to check it out. It’s not cheap. But it won’t be astronomical like Urasawa. There’s Sushi Sushi on Beverly Dr. But someone posted that the fish is pre-cut, if that bothers you. Then there’s always Sugarfish.

Have a great evening.

I guess I should have asked if you meant sushi or grill/bbq. There’s Yazawa on S.M. Blvd. But that gets pricey.

I’m thinking about Necco on westwood blvd.

It’s not close to Laemmle Music Hall. But if you’re coming from the Westside it’s on your way and shouldn’t be a problem. I haven’t been to Necco. If you go let me know how it is :relaxed:.

Necco
[/quote]Just checked it out. It looks pretty interesting… and reasonable. Have fun.

Sasabune Beverly Hills on Olympic near Rexford.
Chef Ei is wonderful, especially his rice preparation. Omakase about $80 (but not that many courses).

Okay… just watched it. What the heck? I’m going to give it another try… now.

Watched it again. What can I say? Next to food, movies are a passion. And food movies?

I absolutely loved the actual Tampopo storyline. I get the twist on the spaghetti western (brilliant). Mysterious stranger comes to town and helps helpless damsel along with a charming assortment of misfits. But the vignettes - if that’s what they were - were quizzical, but didn’t add to the plot. Felliniesque in a Japanese sort of way. But they detracted from the story… IMO. Some were adorable, like the young man at the business dinner in the French restaurant and the food squishing lady. But the food porn couple and the slurping school girls .

I did learn a lot about ramen.

I would definitely watch it again, but fast forward thru some scenes. Like fast forwarding thru the Julie scenes in Julie & Julia.

Anyway, who cares what you think TheCookie? Go eat something.
