Director Trần Anh Hùng (who also directed “The Scent of Green Papaya”) has made another food-centric masterpiece. Set in fin-de-siècle France, long before the rise of Nouvelle Cuisine. The initial scene in this film alone rivals any in “Tampopo” or “Eat Drink Man Woman”.

This should’ve gotten an Oscar nom (ignoring how insane it was that France submitted it over Anatomy of a Fall, a guaranteed winner)
Best cooking scenes ever. That’s a huge percentage of the film.
I want an old-school (let’s party like it’s 1889!) French meal with great Burgundies.
