July 2020 Rundown

Was that just the normal bento or a special order? Looks awesome and can’t wait to order my next one! :star_struck:

Back at the Win-Dow today. “Kid” got a triple.

Ended up at Salt N Straw. Meyer lemon and blueberry doesn’t suck.

Did the grease destroy the paper serving tray?

Yes, but all that grease makes the paper perfectly edible!

That definitely looks like what I am going to get!

Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did! I am planning on a return visit soon, I was actually craving that sandwich after a conversation I had about Southern fried catfish.

Pretty sure it was the normal bento, but he did mention it changes weekly!

What is the stuff in the 2nd pic below what I assume is almond jello?

Ohmigod, before I read your comment, I was about to say that the strawberry-tart pic was totally porno!

We were thankfully spared the wrath of hurricane Douglas. Passed north of Oahu by approximately 20 miles!

Ono seafood poke bowl. Looks messy but tastes great

Mezze, lamb chops, iskender kabob and desserts. From Istanbul. Haven’t had the opportunity to have an iskender kabob in the state’s it took me back to turkey. And baklava also kunefe (not pictured scarfed the whole thing) which I rarely see over in the USA.

!
Fresh red dragon fruit from farmers market
!

Keeaumoku sashimi all that for 25 bucks. Fish is never frozen. Made great hand rolls with some nori and sushi rice

Fried ono belly from kyungs seafood. Topped with a tenjang garlic sauce. One of the best pieces of cooked fish I’ve had on Oahu.

Toro from maguro bro’s. We got about 10 generous pieces in a 20 dollar donburi. The brothers used to work at tsukiji fish market.

Basque cheesecake from Paris Hawaii. Does not even compare to dialogues version. Very creamy though but the burnt top did not impart any sweetness

Re stir fried Ho fun from lams kitchen they make fresh rice noodles daily

Double :rainbow: celebration for no hurricane

How are long term rental rates in Oahu these days?

You would not believe the deals you can find. I feel bad for the property owners but it has been a boon for us.

We are staying in a 40th floor two bedroom penthouse less than 5 min walk to fort derussy beach park and about 10 min walk to downtown waikiki for under 5k.

Until they lift the travel quarantine vacation rentals will likely have issues filling their properties.

So glad it missed the islands and you got rainbows instead!

Thanks! Me too and thankfully it missed all the islands not just Oahu.

@Sgee if you and your family have the ability to travel/work from home and are ok with the risk of flying I would encourage you to research. Keep in mind there is still a 2 week quarantine in effect until sept 1.

But even with the quarantine it has been an amazing choice for us.

Actually it’s coconut milk on top of black sticky rice! Definitely in my wheelhouse for dessert flavor profile.

Hopefully flash frozen only once to get rid of all the squigglies in the flesh…

Wow that aged ora king salmon looks delish!

Wow that looks fantastic :eyes::heart_eyes_cat: & the color on the aged salmon

All those PRD and Needle posts had me running for the Hong Kong cafe for my fix for lunch.

Char siu and won ton lo mein. I think this might even be my very first time having this combo together !
